Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan

The laboratory chemical hygiene plan (CHP) is a written plan to addresses the general hazards of common chemicals that may be present in the laboratory, and describes work practices, procedures and controls which are in place to protect the laboratory persons from those hazards. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories Standard (Title 29, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1910.1450, specifies the mandatory requirements of a CHP to protect the laboratory persons from harm due to hazardous chemicals.

Chemical Hazard Communication Program for Non-Laboratories

The Chemical Hazard Communication Program has been established to promote a safe work atmosphere for all employees that handle, or come in contact with, hazardous materials in the course of their daily work activity. This Plan complies with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard (29 Code of Federal Regulations 1910.1200). This program is intended to serve non-laboratory personnel (e.g., clinic, maintenance, housekeeping, print shop, etc.).

Chemical Spill Planning and Response

The objective of this guide is to provide chemical users with a framework for spill response planning. This planning must be done in advance, not after a spill occurs. In addition, this guideline is offered to help decide if you should clean up a chemical spill, and if so, how to clean up the spill. This guideline must be followed in the event of a chemical spill.
