Expanded EHS Training Options

By Bradley Stylman, Occupational Safety Specialist

Environmental Health and Safety offers many different online training courses, covering a variety of safety-related topics to meet your educational needs. We have recently expanded our curriculum to include safety protocols and the possible hazards encountered during work in laboratories, offices, clinical areas, or facilities. Online training courses have been developed by EHS and licensed from outside vendors, including Safety Skills and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Courses are helpful for your career at WCM and valuable for life outside of work as well.

All courses can be found in the Environmental Health and Safety library in LMS, are free of charge, and are accessible to WCM faculty, staff, and students with an active CWID. We strongly encourage you to try out some courses and spread the word to anyone you think would benefit from learning about safety protocols and potential hazards.

New Courses from the CDC

The CDC Division of Laboratory Services has produced courses designed to assist laboratory workers in essential biological laboratory work. CDC-provided online courses are designed by top CDC scientists and delve into more detail than many basic laboratory safety training sessions. They cover general topics such as basic biology and biosafety and more specific areas such as nucleic acid extraction. Weill Cornell Medicine has licensed the following new courses from the CDC:

Basic Molecular Biology Module 1: Basic Science

Basic Molecular Biology Module 2: Laboratory Practice
